Astromist App Reviews

Powerful but Buggy

Used it with Palm and loved it. Using it with iphone and unfortunately too many bugs. Keeps crashing, unable to set location. A user guide is available for all other versions, but video tutorials only for iphone. I hate video tutorials!! Hoping bugs fixed as feature wise this is the best out there.

Phenomenal amateur astronomy app

Everything that an amateur astronomer needs for night out with the telescope, binoculars, or even naked eye observing. Really appreciate the detailed star charts with night mode and ephemeris for all the objects. Apparently it can also control computer controlled scopes, but havent tried that yet. Thanks for making this available as freeware! Phenomenal amateur astronomy app!

Bug work around

This is very good astronomy app for the serious amateur astronomer. The tool set is extensive and accurate. The last update contains a bug in that it sometimes truncates the display if cold started while the iPad is in landscape mode. Until the next bug fix, the work around is to make sure that Astromist is not in memory (open the running app display on the iPad and delete Astromist if it is running). Then just make sure the iPad is in portrait mode and start Astromist. Astromist will preform normally in portrait or landscape.

A professional astronomy app for the serious astronomers

If youre a serious astronomer, this is a very good app to have, loaded with tons of features not found in many other astronomy/planetarium apps. Its hard to figure out at first because it doesnt follow the design philosophy of Apple (more like the old days of Palm OS which is where it came from) but once you got it, its very easy to breeze through. Dont buy it if youre a newbie/beginner, it wasnt made for you yet. But when youve gotten good enough at astronomy, come back to this app. You wont believed how much stuff its loaded with. The author is active and have been releasing updates slowly over the years. "Slowly" because there isnt any thing to improve on but fixing bugs and staying current with newer iOS versions, lol. These days, I used this together with Redshift app and that gives me all the astronomy needs from my iPhone. Planets, satellites, comets, sunsets/sunrises, Jupiters moons, Polaris adjustments, etc, etc.
